English Electric Lightning
The English Electric Lightning is a British interceptor from the 1960s and 1970s that became the first British fighter pilot to reach twice the speed of sound. Thanks to the slim shape of the fuselage, which could be achieved by arranging the turbines on top of each other, and the strongly swept-up flights, it has extremely good flight performance in the areas of speed, climb performance and peak altitude. The only weak point is the short range. The machines were also in use in Saudi Arabia and Kuwait. Today some of the privately owned machines are rented out to solvent pilots who want to fly “real” dogfights with them.
The Lightning was developed on a scale of 1:5 under the leadership of Klaus Buttler. The model has impressive dimensions, equipped with a 16Kp turbine, the Lightning is absolutely tame, easy to fly and inspires with its outstanding flight image.
